The Toastmaster Training System
On joining Toastmasters, new members choose of the 11 specialised training Paths of their choice. Each Path consists of 5 Levels of increasing complexity.
The paths that you can choose from include:
- Presentation Mastery
- Motivational Strategies
- Engaging Humour
- Dynamic Leadership
- Leadership Development
- Innovative Planning
- Strategic Relationships
- Team Collaboration
- Effective Coaching
- Visionary Communication
- Persuasive Influence
Each level consists of projects which all have a speech component. These are called a Project or Prepared speech. Projects and speeches vary depending on the chosen Path. All the learning materials and resources are available on line. Printed manuals are available for a fee.
For example the first Level 1 project speech for all paths is called “The Icebreaker” and simply calls for the new member to speak about a familiar subject – themselves. The speech serves as the member’s introduction to speaking in front of an audience and their introduction to club members.
All project speeches involve preparing a speech around a theme with training provided. Before each speech a very simple 5 question assessment of your skills is undertaken. After completing your project speech a follow up reassessment is undertaken to see how you have developed.
